KERATOSIS PILARIS

Many suffer from it, no one talks about it. Those who have it, try to hide it and most don’t even know what it is. If you do suffer from it, you would’ve tried everything possible to try to get rid of it and when summer comes around, the anticipation is all encompassing.

Keratosis pilaris is the result of a build-up of dead overproduced keratin protein cells trapped within the hair follicle, blocking it. This in turn creates a small bump and is most common and often found on the upper arms, upper thighs, buttocks and upper back. The skin and bumps can be red, hyper-pigmented or white.

Often referred to as 'strawberry skin' and ‘chicken skin’, signs include uneven texture, redness, tiny bumps and rough skin. This annoying, common yet harmless skin concern can affect anyone but is most common in teenagers and early 20’s, and becomes less common as one ages.

If you suffer with keratosis pilaris, you have probably tried everything in your might to try and get rid of it. There are two ways to expel the keratin bumps but the treatments combined work the best. These are through exfoliating.

Firstly, using a physically exfoliation, this either being a dry brush and/or grainy scrub. Then followed with clean skin, a chemical exfoliation. AHAs and BHAs are the ‘chemicals’ that expel the built-up keratin and stop it from returning. This process takes a few weeks or so for the skin cells to turnover but the keratosis pilaris will diminish and will not come back with continued daily treatment.

Tronque’s Exfoliating Refining Serum uses 7 natural AHAs and BHAs, pineapple enzymes, niacinamide and natural ‘retinol’ bakuchiol to dismantle keratosis pilaris, while brightening the skin and evening uneven skin tone.

AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) loosens the bonds of old skin cells, gently but powerfully exfoliating the skin, treating acne, clogged pores, blackheads and pore size. The chemical exfoliant assists in dissolving the ‘glue’ that holds cells together that causes dull skin, acne, blackheads, pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and rough, uneven skin. AHAs also remove bacteria to reveal brighter, smoother and tighter skin all while improving moisture levels. The natural antioxidants counteract oxidative stress assist in repairing damaged skin from the sun, while strengthening the skin barrier to protect against future sun damage.

BHAs (beta-hydroxy acids) penetrates deeply into the skin epidermis treating acne, whiteheads and blackheads by de-clogging dead skin cells by dismantling the ‘glue’ that holds cells together. BHAs deeply exfoliate the skin by breaking down skin cells, gently diminishing problematic skin and reducing pore size.

It is important to moisturise after exfoliating physically and chemically. Tronque’s Exfoliating Refining Serum is loaded with moisturising factors within its serum, to moisturise while deeply exfoliating, never causing irritation or dryness.

Also packed with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, Bioactive Wakame seaweed, shea butter, olive squalane and glycerine to replenish moisturisation levels.

Try not to pick and aggravate the keratosis pilaris and let the hard-working AHAs and BHAs work overtime to deeply exfoliate or the keratin will build up again.
