TACKLING BODY ACNE AND "BACKNE"

Something we don’t talk about and will go to full lengths to hide, conceal and deny. Except, it’s so damn common in women and men of all ages and stages!

Incredibly frustrating, body acne isn’t something to be ashamed of, because most people have to deal with it at some stage in their life.

The technical definition of acne is “a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles plug with oil and dead skin cells. Acne is most common in teenagers and young adults. Symptoms range from un-inflamed blackheads to pus-filled pimples or large, red and tender bumps.” Source: Mayo Clinic.

‘Backne’, ‘buttne’, or anywhere acne, the face is not the limit. Hoping it will go away and wearing a high neck top will sometimes not suffice and other measures have to be made.

With some easy to implement changes, your body acne can be diminished and expelled. But, a little patience is what is needed most.

Treat Topically

Chemical exfoliants such as AHAs and BHAs specifically designed for the body, gently exfoliate the skin’s superficial surface layer and deep within pores to treat and prevent breakouts. A chemical and enzyme exfoliation treats the thicker and tougher skin on the body, increasing cell turnover and removing dead skin cells generating smoother and brighter skin. The results immediately leave you glowing and moisturised, however the deeper, lasting results reveal themselves in a few days and then a few weeks with regular use.

Using Everyday Revelation will help to dissolve the dead skin cells and clogged pores.

Be Careful With Physical Exfoliants

Over exfoliating leads to inflammation. Harshly exfoliating already delicate areas will only inflame the epidermis. Bring the inflammation down will calm the areas around acne and clogged pores, allowing gentle cleansing and treating with AHAs and BHAs to work their magic. Be gentle and physically exfoliate once a week, if you feel you have to.

Choose The Right Moisturiser

Once treating body acne with AHAs and BHAs, choosing the correct body moisturiser is crucial. If dealing with cystic body acne, use Exfoliating Refining Serum alone. Exfoliating Refining Serum is packed full of non-cosmogenic ingredients that keep skin exfoliated, yet deeply hydrated, never clogging pores. Ingredients such as olive squalane and hyaluronic acid keep hydration levels high, allowing you to use the serum alone or combined with Firming Body Butter.

Don’t Over Treat. And Don’t Pick

It’s easy to dry out the skin by over exfoliating and over treating quite easily. Finding the perfect balance is key. Treat kindly and with the correct products. Try, try, try not to pick! As this leads to spreading of bacteria and scaring. Once acne has cleared up, treat with Scar Concentrate.

Change Shampoo and Conditioner

If you struggle with ‘backne’ experiment with changing up your shampoo and conditioner. Many hair care products aren’t ‘clean’ and don’t avoid many chemicals. These could be irritating your body skin and clogging pores along the way.

Change Your Laundry Detergent

Experiment with changing your laundry detergent. We sleep in our sheets for around 8 hours every night of our lives and clothes are the closest thing to us after personal care products. Laundry detergents are quite powerful and only a little bit is needed, if your skin has been irritated long term, there could be a possible link.

Shower immediately after a workout

Try not to let the grime and build-up of sweat clog your pores for too long. Be careful of sweaty, tight clothes that cling against the skin for long periods of time.

Wear Sunscreen but Wash it Off as soon the sun goes down

If you are heading out in the sun, wearing sunscreen is a non-negotiable. However, more so if you suffer from acne. Scarring is more susceptible to acne that is exposed to the sun. However, wash off the sunscreen as soon as the sun goes down to avoid clogging pores.

An Alternative Option – Limit Dairy

This is an alternative option, but consider limiting your dairy intake. Studies show there has been a link between cystic acne and dairy consumption. This is due to the inflammation that arises after consumption. Many people have a dairy intolerance without knowing. If you cut it out for a trial, no doubt you will feel better regardless.
